It may be the middle of summer, but as parents it's never too early to think about your kid's schools.  Schools throughout the area are seeing increased enrollment with the rapid growth in the market.  School boundaries do change because of this, every year in some districts.  You should always verify what school districts and schools cover a home you are interested in purchasing.  We strive to keep you up to date on schools in Desert Ridge.

Desert Ridge in North Phoenix, proudly houses some excellent schools as recognized by the state's awards.

Desert Trails Elementary has been open since 1997 and is home to students from pre kindergarten through 6th grade.  The boundaries include students from throughout Desert Ridge, east of 4oth Street.  Desert Trails Elementary is rated as an Excelling school by the state.

Wildfire Elementary is a new school which opened in 2006.  With the opening of this school in the Aviano section on Desert Ridge, boundaries were changed to give both Wildfire and Desert Trails breathing room and space to grow.  The boundaries for Wildfire include the Aviano and Fireside sections of Desert Ridge (west of 40th St), Wildcat Ridge and Tatum Highlands.  The Paradise Valley Unified school district is planning ahead for future growth, and anticipates adding another elementary school within Desert Ridge, at a site set aside in Fireside at Desert Ridge.  Wildfire is too new to have yet recieved it's rating, but we can say that parental feedback has been great.

Both of these elementary schools feed into Explorer Middle School, also rated an Excelling School. All of Desert Ridge is within Explorer's boundaries. Like Desert Trails, Explorer opened in the fall of 1997 to welcome residents of the then fledgling Desert Ridge community.  Today Explorer is very proud of its new signature program, School of Technology. They have implemented new equipment and applications during the 2006-2007 school year. The science and social studies curriculum utilizes interactive technology including: wireless mobile computer labs, Smart Boards and Tablets, digital still cameras, digital camcorders and several web based applications including Beyond Books, KidBiz 3000, TeenBiz 3000, Renaissance Place, and Logger Pro.

Pinnacle High School opened in 2000 and serves all of Desert Ridge.  Also rated an Excelling school, Pinnacle High school as garnered additonal recognition from Newsweek, making it onto the magazine's list of the top 1300 pulic high schools nationwide (coming in at #618).  Pinnacle includes programs such as

  • Advanced Placement
  • Structured English Immersion
  • Honors Program
  • State-of-the-Art Technology Integration
  • Signature Programs: Sports Medicine and Community Outreach
